Last night I saw something that shook me to my core. In most instances, it would have gone unnoticed, even by me. But with the current assignment on our table, the entire scene seemed to have a spotlight shining right over it. We had to go into a jewelry store to resize a ring. When we walked in, the atmosphere was very “jewelry store-like,” very sterile and pristine. The odd thing was the number of workers standing all around that room. Amidst the shining gems and sparkling jewels, the amount of people seemed out of place. Any recent trip to a drive thru window, retail store, or gas station, magnifies our worlds lack of public workers these days. Even our local WalMart has only “Self Check” lanes open, and sometimes operates on “covid hours” now, due to the scarcity of enough cashiers. When I saw the number of Workers in this jewelry store, I was immediately reminded of the verse in the Bible from Matthew 24. “FOR AS IN THE DAYS THAT WERE BEFORE THE FLOOD, THEY WERE EATING AND DRINKING, MARRYING AND GIVING IN MARRIAGE, UNTIL THE DAY THAT NOE ENTERED INTO THE ARK.” We realize, of course, there is no sin in getting married. In fact, God’s first blessing was upon marriage and a married couple. We know certainly there is no sin in that because Jesus Himself invites us to a Marriage Supper. The reason my trip inside this store was so startling, is that it was a perfect picture of where we truly are in the Bible timeline right now. See, obviously, just as in Noah’s day, people are carrying on with life as usual. The proof of that was here, well displayed in the count. People are still getting engaged, needing rings to ask for a beloved hand. Weddings are still taking place, some God-ordained, and some even without a thought as to the Biblical approval of the partner. To that, I must say we need to take heed. It is time to pay attention. Open your ears! Open your eyes! Look around you … it doesnt take much to see that Jesus was stating the facts when He said these Words. Just like it was THEN, it is NOW. ~selah.
